What Your Website Needs and Does Not Need
For many people, having a website of their own is a dream come true. If you are one of them, most likely you cannot sleep a wink until you are certain your website works in exactly the way it is supposed to work.
If you want your website to achieve the very purpose why you created it in the first place, avoid using splash pages whenever possible. A splash page is nothing more than the first page that gets loaded when you visit a website. Often it contains an image with the word “welcome” or “click here to enter”, and serves no other real purpose.
Next, even if your website will look like an empty football field, do not fill it up with banner advertisements. Banner advertisements are temptations of some kind because they usually only keep your visitors away from the main issue. If you really want to fill your page, use relevant content and links to keep your visitors reading.
Further, think clean and clear. They say, simplicity is beauty, so make your site very simple, one that is very easy to grasp and understand even by the young visitors. The net is filled with surfers from every age group, after all, so ideally, your website must also be child-friendly. Use simple navigation menus and drop down menus to avoid getting your visitors all confused. This way, there is practically no chance of them getting turned-off in the event that they would not know how to use your site at all.
Another must that you have to do is to create a feature in your website that can aptly tell the user what particular point he already is in your website. Having this feature in your website will keep your visitor from getting confused.
Last but not least, do not use audio in your site. Remember that your visitors are there to read what you have to offer. Besides, music to some people may be too upsetting and offending. However if you really want to install this feature in your site, just be sure that the volume can be controlled so your visitor can have the option of turning it off whenever they want.
Having a website can, indeed, be very exciting, but it takes more than enthusiasm to get a website to work appropriately, achieving the end by which it was created in the first place.
